I am hoping, but not holding my breath, because I have burned too many times by early series announcements...but I will sure follow the news on this one. (At least 2 dragonriders of Pern series have died at further along than this stage- the last because the show's creator wanted it to stay fairly true to the books and WB was pushing for "Buffy the Weyrwoman 90210". On the otherhand the Doctor has the history, and the very hardwired fanbase, so it has that huge advantage in the Beeb's hivemind...)

The newest Dr. Who rumour, courtesy of Tom Baker on England's Radio 5 this morning, is that Eddie Izzard will be playing the Doctor.

I take this one with a heaping big grain of salt, I find it very hard to believe. Izzard would make a great Doctor, but it just doesn't seem like the kind of thing he would do...

No chance. :) Tom has a history of fucking with the press; he's the one who started the whole "the next Doctor might be a woman" rumor back in 1980. I wouldn't trust a word the man has to say on the subject, bless his heart.

That said, I'd love to see Eddie as the Doctor.
