Written last night ....

This has been a productive couple of days.

I'm writing this on my new laptop -- it's a Dell Latitude 433c. Fairly antiquated, but perfectly adequate for my needs. I paid a whopping $29 for it at a little computer store on Aurora, as is, no operating system. [livejournal.com profile] retcon installed just enough DOS on it for me to run PICO, so I now have a dirt-cheap laptop to take with me and do some writing. (I can't believe buying a new laptop was cheaper than repairing the floppy drive on my old one, but there we are.) I couldn't be happier with this. It even looks cool, despite its age -- nice small black case. I'll be perfectly happy to be seen with this out at clubs or the Aurafice.

I found this while Riff and I were out shopping for computer hardware. Ron had already donated a bunch of parts and motherboards to me for the purpose of building a replacement for my aging Windows box and to build a new Linux box to use as a webserver for our various sites. I've been over at his place while he built computers and I worked on the redesign for the Merchants of Deva website, which, if I may say so myself -- and I may -- is looking totally killer. I'm going to have it done in plenty of time before Norwescon.

We're at my place now, and Riff is working on finishing the Windows machine, and [livejournal.com profile] treebyleaf is making dinner, and I'm staying out of their way. The case for the new Windows box is much bigger than my old minitower, and we had to tear apart the desk to get it to fit. I ran out to Home Depot to get some L-brackets to re-stabilize the wounded desk. It's stronger than ever now, and doing the work to get it that way was strangely gratifying.

Dinner's ready. Looks wonderful. Life is good.
