So usually, when I do a Tunes for Tuesday post, I put up something I've been listening to for a little while -- a few days, at least. I can't remember when I've ever heard something new on a Tuesday and turned right around and posted a link to it. But today's that day!
Some of you may have already heard a truncated version of this already; I understand it's being used in television ads for the 2010 Lincoln MKZ. It's a cover of a song you already know, and probably like, if I know my friends list correctly, so here it is:
Shiny Toy Guns - Major Tom
Let me know if you do like it. Cheers.

Date: 2009-04-14 07:18 pm (UTC)I never thought this was really a reworking of Bowie's song. Instead, it always reminded me of a sf short story that I read years ago and haven't been able to find since.
An energy-based alien lands on Earth a few hundred millennia ago, finds the highest lifeform is a primitive hominid, which it takes the form of to survive in the gravity well. It can't escape said gravity, so it decides to shepherd the species until they're space-faring. It ends up working behind the scenes, altering the plans for the first unmanned orbital launch to include a small empty space. It crawls into the space just before launch, after working as a janitor on the base (practically invisible). The exposure to space kills the human body, but releases the alien energy, and it... goes home.
Rings any bells for anyone?
