They're still doing flu shots. My doctor gave me one last week, after I told him I just got over a flu (saying that there are a couple of strains and it's better to be safe than sorry).
BTW: drug-resistant ain't exactly it, it's more that people are dying of this flu in unusual numbers. (Still small numbers -- the two cases I heard of in the Seattle metro area both died of a complication where the flu virus irritates the heart muscle.)
Personally, I don't get flu shots because I swear I can feel the stuff spread through my body from my arm over the next hour or two. I was cordially ordered to get them every year in the Navy, but now that I'm free, screw that.
Why couldn't the examples in my old Introduction to Logic class back in college be that simple? I am an idiot that doesn't do well when confronted with strings of alphanumerics that resemble algebraic equations instead of anything even closely matching the English language. If A=B then B!=A if C!=D and D=C? What the hell?!
Actually, a drug-resistant flu strain _is_ a reason to get a flu shot--vaccines inject you with a weakened form of the virus, allowing your body to bolster your immune system against the disease. The drugs in question are what you're given _after_ you catch the live bug. There is a minimal risk of contracting the full-on flu from the flu shot, but that's pretty rare.
Or so I recall from somewhere back in the mists of time, possibly my high-school Health class. And you'll note it took me a week to dredge that much information out of my brain. :)

You don't have to be logical,
