dw100 is an LJ community for posting Doctor Who related drabbles -- extremely short stories of exactly 100 words, based on a weekly "challenge," a word or phrase or quotation to prompt your writing.

kespernorth told me he'd love to see some longer Who fiction from me at some point, and that seems likely -- I have a really brutal one I'm currently plotting -- but I'm probably also going to be taking part in the weekly drabbles, just to keep my hand in.

All I really want is my TV and you

I've had several people at this point, who are now big fans of the new Doctor Who series but have little or no experience with the original, ask me where to begin. It's a good question -- where, exactly, can you just dive in to a show that was on the air for twenty-six seasons?

After much thought, I've narrowed it down to just twenty stories that will let you hit the highlights of the series, and get a sense for the narrative flow as a whole. If you want to get a good feel for the show, these should do the trick.

So, then -- the twenty essential episodes of Doctor Who.
