Reading.

There's that chill in the air again, that sharp wind through leafless trees that makes you pull your coat tighter. The days are growing shorter and the dead are closer every day.

It's almost time.

Come to my seventh annual Horror Fiction Reading on Saturday, October 30th.

I'll be reading a few of my short stories, including at least one brand new piece and something from my anthology, Counting from Ten. (I'll also have copies with me, if you'd like to buy one afterward.)

As always, the Reading will be at the Aurafice, an Internet coffee shop, on 616 East Pine Street, between Belmont and Boylston on Capitol Hill in Seattle, WA. It will be from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. (Early enough, I hope, for everyone to come to the reading and still be able to go out and enjoy the rest of your Halloween weekend.)

If you're not familiar with my fiction, please check out my personal website at: http://bloodletters.com/

If you're planning on being there, then please consider posting this link image in your LiveJournal, or to your website or weblog. I look forward to seeing you all. Thanks!

Here's the code for it:

Would you be so good as to consider recording the event for those of us who would surely attend were it not a question of extreme distance?

[identity profile] icebluenothing.livejournal.com 2004-10-18 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, that's a question that's come up before, and I think it's a fine idea, but I don't personally have the equipment (or the mad audio skillz) to make it happen.

Is there anyone out there reading this who could make this happen?

[identity profile] capnexposition.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually...if someone asked me nicely, I could get either a standard VHS or a Mini-DV camcorder from work and could, conceivably, record the whole damn thing...

[identity profile] icebluenothing.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Video would be pretty freakin' cool, actually, but I'm worried we'd end up with something too big for people to download; I was mainly just thinking of recording the audio. Any ideas on that?

Anyway, I hope you'll be there, with or without A/V gear.

Well, I'll certainly be there, no fear of that. Got the night off from work and everything.

Regarding recording...that could also be done, but someone (certainly not me) would have to approach my bosses about actually renting the sound equipment and hiring an operator for the evening. This would cost money (hence my reluctance). However, I can get us a documentary-quality digital camcorder for free through work, and for the cost of a 90-minute mini-DV tape (about $10) and as many VHS tapes as you like(Sweet fuck-all, being that you can often get these for free these days), I could dub the whole thing (again, for free) to VHS for you to copy and send out to whosoever you choose. I could probably even finagle a PZM mic for the evening to get even better audio quality, if I use up some of my brownie points with my co-workers.

Let me know what you think. We could get fairly crafty abut this if you are willing.

Duh!

That's why you were so cold when you turned down my party invite.

It's a good thing I haven't decided what time the party's starting, isn't it?

I just finished your book.

I really enjoyed all of the stories, a couple of them I very much enjoyed the twist on some familiar tales.

Ron had another collection of yours which I have also read. Can't wait for the next offering of yours. I wish we could be in Seattle for the reading.

Glad you liked it! Also glad to hear you had a chance to read Hand Grenade Heart -- those were a very limited edition and they're all gone now, so you guys have something most people haven't even seen.

I wish you guys could be here, too. I'll try to send spooky vibes your way.

I am going to put you on the top of my list of things to do Halloween weekend!

Wait a minute, that came out wrong...

YOu know what I mean, I miss you and want to hug you so I'll try and get all my friends to come see you too!

[identity profile] icebluenothing.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounded right to me -- ? Heh.

Miss you, too. I look forward to seeing you -- glad to hear you'll be there.

Hoping to go because I really loved last year's reading- though I will likely have to have Michael in tow. We'll have to see how likely he is to behave himself or sleep through it that evening.

[identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I am trying to work out the details so I can come (no cell phone so no interruptions from me) and bring my friend Fes.

Sigh. I hope I can pull it off. I miss you and I love to hear you read.

[identity profile] inevitability.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There are several factors that would bar me coming, but I'll try. We'll see.

[identity profile] icebluenothing.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
It would rock like Dokken if you could make it, but if you can't because of school and suchlike, I'll totally understand.

[identity profile] inevitability.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'll see what I can do. School, dog, the need to avoid drama. The reasons are many, but I'll do my best.
