Ring in the New.

NYE:Y2K7// SIXBOX REMIXED

New Year's party, my place, December 31st. (no, really?)

I've done some -- kind of radical rearranging of my apartment, and I don't know if it's quite as party-compatible as it used to be -- but there's only one way to find out, isn't there?

If you can read this, you're invited. Feel free to bring a date or guests, and to bring alcohol and foodstuffs.

Party starts at 8:00pm, and will most likely end sometime on Monday.

My residence is at 19428 Aurora Ave N, #229 [map]. It's at 195th street and Aurora; there's a big sign that says "Echo Cove Condominiums."

There are a grand total of ten visitor spaces available in the parking lot; if you can't find one, I suggest you park at the Shoreline Park and Ride a block south and walk up.

I still don't have a land-line, so I can't buzz you in. Inconvenient, I realize. If you have a cell phone, you can call my cell phone, (206) 371-0775, when you get there, and I can come out and get you. If you don't, then a.) show up with someone who does, or b.) call from the pay phone at the convenience store on the corner, I suppose. Sorry for the hassle.

Please RSVP: If you think you're coming, post a comment or send me mail. Thanks!

Satisfaction

Man, what a good day.

Breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] windbourne and then lazing about and napping in the afternoon; an impromptu gathering of however-many-people-we-can-reach-by-phone to go see Snakes on a Plane (which was entirely entertaining, even if [livejournal.com profile] retcon and [livejournal.com profile] capnexposition decided they were too cool to come along. Suck it, haters. :P).

Our time at the movie was made that much more entertaining by Arthur and his friend Patrick, who had thoughtfully brought along rubber snakes for everyone.

Then it was off to the Mercury for [livejournal.com profile] saffyre_dragon's birthday party, which was also greatly entertaining -- it seemed like practically everyone I knew was there, and there was much banter, drinking, and shirtlessness.

Also, Ahna was wearing an astonishingly cute (by which I mean hot) outfit, involving a cute li'l flippy black skirt (with crinoline!) and this shirt, which is truth in advertising exemplified. Couldn't keep my eyes off her.

Notice I never mentioned dinner. We kinda forgot. So now it's 3:30 in the morning, and we're having ridiculously cheap microwave dinners. Yaaay! Life is so good.

Little bit bored.

What have you got going on that's fun and exciting tonight, me droogies?

-----
edited to add: What I meant was, what have you got going on that I could do, too? (I'm occasionally astonished at how dreadfully literal I have to be with you people.)

Ring in the new

It's been three weeks. I still haven't cleaned the place up. No one's stepped forward to claim the abandoned bottles of alcohol. I still need to give [livejournal.com profile] saheeb138 back his shirt and [livejournal.com profile] capnexposition back his socks.

In short -- that was one heck of a New Year's party.

In attendance: [livejournal.com profile] bhaiku, [livejournal.com profile] briara, [livejournal.com profile] capnexposition, [livejournal.com profile] endorphan, [livejournal.com profile] gwywnnydd, [livejournal.com profile] hetaera15, [livejournal.com profile] kaneda_khan, [livejournal.com profile] kickaha, Lars, [livejournal.com profile] morgyne, [livejournal.com profile] ni_q, [livejournal.com profile] retcon, [livejournal.com profile] saffyre_dragon, [livejournal.com profile] saheeb138, [livejournal.com profile] ssandv, [livejournal.com profile] ursako, and [livejournal.com profile] windbourne. Once I write it out like that, it doesn't seem like a lot of people, but I'd have sworn there were at least twice as many. Y'all just act like a lot of people, I guess. Heh.

This year, [livejournal.com profile] windbourne wasn't out of town, which made me greatly happy, and it meant she got to meet [livejournal.com profile] kickaha, my oldest friend. (I mean, I've known him the longest. I don't mean he's that old. I mean .... ) They got along like a house afire, which I knew they would. [livejournal.com profile] morgyne was back in town, too! Yaay for people I haven't seen in a while!

This year, there were pictures! Oh, god, were there pictures. I narrowed it down to a hundred of them and posted them to Flickr. Here are my pictures tagged with "nye2005". They're kind of in reverse order, so you might want to start with
this one and work your way forward.

Nothing got broken this year! And only one person got vomitously drunk!

We had the Survivors' Breakfast the next morning at the Rusty Pelican again, since we'd gotten such great service there last year, and this year was even better. The Survivor's Breakfast seems to have outgrown its original intent -- it used to be just the people who had actually stayed over at my place all night, but this year we had people who didn't even make it to the party at all -- but we had a great time, and it was nice to start the year with such a large group of friends.

PDX.

Off to Portland for the weekend. Should hopefully be back soon enough to be at Allyson's party, assuming it goes on late enough. (Wait, did that make any sense?) So, yeah. Cheers!

Aimless.

I have no particular plans tonight; left to my own devices, I'll probably just watch a movie at home or something, but I could be persuaded to come out and be social if anyone wants to do anything. Call me or mail me if interested, I'm free around 7:00pm.

Extropy.

.... And then the roller-coaster swings around, and my life goes back from suck to awesome. In no particular order:

  • I've been doing a few days work here and there for Trace again, the same person I was working for last year, and he thinks he's going to have a lot more hours for me in the not-too-distant future, which is excellent.
  • Had much fun at [livejournal.com profile] endorphan's birthday.
  • Also had a very pleasant evening on [livejournal.com profile] bhaiku's birthday.
  • The new car, a 1995 Subaru Impreza, is entirely awesome. I'm sure I'll miss my truck, but my new love is helping me get over it in a big, big hurry. It has such amazing luxury features as:
    • A driver's side door that closes all the way
    • A driver's side window that's not constantly slipping out of its track
    • A working interior dome light
    • Working A/C
    • A passenger's side seatbelt that works consistently
    • A tape player!
    • Reverse gear!
    It's also mad sexy.
  • I should have a day job soon, to keep me eating between bouts of working for Trace, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] saheeb138. I have a second interview tomorrow at the copy center of the Office Max he works at, and that practically guarantees I have the job.
  • Someone I don't even know emailed me out of the blue and asked if I'd do some freelance CGI work for them. I said yes, of course.
  • [livejournal.com profile] imsosquare gave me the low-down on how to get cheap dental work. Thanks, sweetie!
  • [livejournal.com profile] windbourne continues to be unimaginably awesome.

As merry as the days were long

Not too much I'm actually doing lately, so I'll tell you about things I've watched instead.

  • Sometime in the nebulous depths of last week, [livejournal.com profile] windbourne and I watched Revengers Tragedy, starring Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston, the always fabulous Eddie Izzard, and Derek Jacobi, and directed by the guy who made Repo Man. The perfect movie if you want to see a dark, funny, and bloody Jacobean tragedy updated for a post-apocalyptic Liverpool setting -- and who wouldn't?

  • Thursday, Ahna and [livejournal.com profile] briara and I went out to see Star Wars: Episode III, which was startlingly watchable. I'd hated Episode I so much that I never even bothered with Episode II, but the trailers for this one were good enough to lure me back. While much of the dialogue was cringingly awful, the politics were actually interesting, Palpatine got some good solid material to work with, the film somehow didn't look as cheap as it's predecessors, and it somehow managed to occasionally hit the epic, mythic feel it was aiming for. It's not perfect, by any means, but at some levels, I think I might actually like it better than Return of the Jedi. Worth a matinee.

  • Later that night, Ahna took me to see VNV Nation at the Showbox, for which I am still insanely grateful. [livejournal.com profile] kespernorth had told me before that he never liked the band until he saw them live, and since I already did like them, I was expecting a hell of a show, and I wasn't disappointed. Those boys know how to work a crowd.

  • Saturday, I went to Folklife. It was okay. I mainly wandered around and people-watched. Way too hot out.

  • That night, Ahna and I met up with [livejournal.com profile] ursako and [livejournal.com profile] bhaiku for another concert, featuring KUMA, who turned out to be all kinds of awesome. Ahna wrote a good review of the show, if you want to check that out, and posted some MP3s as well. Really good stuff. I just kept drifiting closer and closer to the stage as the crowd allowed, to be closer to the ROCK. Just transcendent.

The people that you meet when you're walking down the street

"Aren't you supposed to be in Olympia?"

I've been asked that a lot lately ....

Last week, I had a doctor's appointment Wednesday morning, so I came up to Seattle the night before. I wanted to see [livejournal.com profile] windbourne while I was in Seattle, natch, but I knew she was spending the day with [livejournal.com profile] briara, so I went up to Capitol Hill to kill some time.

While I was wandering around, I ran into Lars, and then [livejournal.com profile] devilpuppy and Richard, and then ran into [livejournal.com profile] helix90 and [livejournal.com profile] artvixn. These last two were on their way to dinner at the Noodle Studio, and asked me to join them, which I cheerfully did. After dinner, we went to a used music/video store, where Martin bought be four Doctor Who videos, just on a whim. I'm still boggling at that. Thanks, Martin!

Then we ran into [livejournal.com profile] retcon, and he and I wandered off to have coffee.

Later I met up with Ahna and Ri, and we went to Ahna's apartment to watch the new Doctor Who. ("Dalek," an episode I'd desperately been looking forward to. It was so good.)

The next day I got up way earlier than I wanted to, went to my appointment, and came home and crashed for a while. I had intended to pick up a prescription refill while I was in Seattle, but there they needed to reconfirm the prescription with my doctor or somesuch, and I knew from past experience that that would take a couple of days, so I made plans to come back to Seattle that weekend. I spent some more time with Ahna, and then headed back to Olympia, way later than I should have. That's a long drive when you're sleepy.

So I decided to come back into town on Saturday, so I could get my prescription and go to [livejournal.com profile] balzac's birthday dinner/Mercury outing. (There was also some talk of going to Rocky Horror, but we ended up just staying at the club.) I had a good time, even though I missed Ahna, who was in California on business.

Sunday morning, I head down to Des Moines to see my parents for Mother's Day, since it's on my way and all, and then back to Cheryl's house again. Ahna calls me Sunday night -- would I mind if she came over and stayed the night with me in Olympia? (Would I mind, she says.) Her ride back from California lives in Olympia, and it's getting late, so .... Not a problem, I tell her.

This means we were able to go to Chopsticks, my favorite restaurant in Olympia, and then go to the Danger Room, which Ahna agrees is pretty damn nifty. (And since it's a small world, one of her classmates from high school works there.) Then I took her home, and was able to catch up on Doctor Who again, and crashed on her couch. The next day was [livejournal.com profile] treebyleaf's birthday, so I picked her up and we went for a walk, and stopped by a new thrift store where I bought her some sandals she liked. Then I came back to Olympia once more.

So that's, let's see, three round trips -- that's an additional 438 miles on my poor aging truck, within the space of a week. Yikes.

Today company came to me, for a change. My old friends [livejournal.com profile] gwyneira and George, from Early Entrance Program days, live not terribly far away, and came to take me to lunch, along with their very-nearly-three-year-old son, Liam. Cute kid, perfectly charming and well-behaved for his age. He surprised me several times by actually paying attention to the conversation and remembering things that had been said earlier. (Which reminds me -- sorry, you two, once again, for inadvertantly teaching him to say "monkeyfucker." Thanks for coming by! *waves*)

That's a lot of company. Some sabbatical this has turned out to be. But even with all this jetsetting -- well, trucksetting -- I've still managed to get done everything on my sister's gardening/landscaping list, including the stuff she was sure I wouldn't get to. This is because I am the Captain of Team Awesome. I'll take pictures of the little wall I built, and post them when I get back.

Whoops -- it's been pointed out to me that I didn't list a time for my potluck.

*thinks*

Okay, I hereby declare that it will be at 7:00. (Which will mean I can give Ahna a ride myself, so that's one less person to worry about.)

See y'all at 7:00 tomorrow, and/or at the Mercury tonight.

Sixmas.

So, the birthday looms once again, and people have been asking me what I want to do about that.

All I really want to do, I think, is this:

Friday, December 10th: Go to the Mercury, if someone else is willing to drive and people are willing to buy me a drink or three.

Saturday, December 11th: Potluck dinner at SIXBOX. Bring whatever sounds appealing. If you haven't been to my place before and would like to come, let me know and I'll hook you up with directions.
