Podcast.

As I announced on Twitter weeks ago (see what you miss by not following me there?), I'm starting a podcast of my short fiction. Podcasting has become a very good way to build a following as a writer, and since I've had years of practice reading my work out loud, it seems like a natural fit.

Episode one is here. I'm not 100% happy with the sound quality -- I've bought a better microphone since then.

Finally finished cleaning up and editing episode two, and I'm pretty excited about this one -- the first one was "Feeding the Flesh", a story that's printed in Counting From Ten. But this one's brand new -- you haven't heard this at a reading yet, and only a couple of people have read it.

By popular request, it's another one of my "Shadow Market" stories. This one is about someone who's just starting out in the Market, and is about to make his first sale -- to a strangely reluctant buyer. This will be the sale that makes his reputation ... if he survives it ....

Here's the link: Bloodletters Podcast Episode Two: "Tricky Sale" (MP3 format, 11min 48sec)

Let me know what you think. (Oh, and no spoilers in the comments, please, for those who haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.) Thanks!

That was exactly as horrifying as I expected. I am particularly impressed with your vocal range. Well done.

Thanks! That was the tricky part of learning how to do this with a microphone -- doing parts that are subtle and quiet and parts that are loud and dramatic and trying to keep it all within roughly the same volume range. That's a lot easier to do in front of a live audience, where I don't have to worry about the sound getting distorted. Anyway -- glad you liked it.

You continue to grow as an artist. I'm really looking forward to episode 3.

Glad you liked it! I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out.

I'm not sure how long it'll take me to get Episode 3 up -- I haven't been doing a lot of writing lately, but I can always just read one of my backlog of stories. The trick will be to start making myself do this on a regular basis.

Awesome!

.... I'm disappointed to see that this is your only post for 4/1.

(I'm also pneumoniac and up far too late, so I'm going to leave it at that instead of trying to winnow the partial-thoughts that are trying to become follow-up statements.)
